McCain’s Moment of Courage

, , , ,

In a town hall style meeting with rapid red meaters, John McCain was asked over and over again, why he wasn’t going for blood. “I’m scared of an Obama Presidency”, said one man. “Why don’t you get a pitbull like Guiliani as your attorney general and shed some blood in this place?” Asked another, younger man.

To that, John McCain shut everybody down. “Look,” he said. “I have to tell you, he is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States”. This was deep in G.O.P. territory, and their displeasure with a potential Obama Presidency was palpable – yet John McCain, perhaps sensing how beat up the American people are, showed some class. He needs to go further by telling his running mate, Sarah Palin, to quit stoking crowd vitriol at Obama, but perhaps seeing how ugly it could get, he’s finally reached at point.
