Hasselblad Takes it to 50 Megapixel

As if the just announced full-frame Nikon D700 or the rumored Canon 5D Mark II isn’t enough for you, Hasselblad tries to take over the conversation with a 50 megapixel announcement.

The Hasselblad H3DII-50 can be considered a powerful update to the Hasselblad H3DII-39, which offers 39 megapixels. The Hasselblad H3DII-50 features Kodak’s monstrous 36x48mm 50 megapixel sensor, a size that is double the largest 35mm sensors.

We know who’s getting their hands on this camera – fashion photographers like Annie Leibovitz, and those that think they’re the next Annie Leibovitz. Each image takes 1.1 seconds per frame and the Hasseblad shoots only up to 400 ISO, but in the case of fashion photography, you’re sacrificing speed for sheer quality – the kind of quality image that stretches across an entire building and still looks fabulous. Kate Moss & Co. would accept no less.

The digital medium format Hasselblad H3DII-50 is yet to be priced but we’re pretty sure its at least $30K. We expect it out sometime in the Fall. Yes folks, its either this or a BMW 1-series coupe. For resolution-whores everywhere, the choice is clear.
