Bahia, Brazil’s Latest Playground
While your friends begin to hatch plans for their first naughty excursion into white-hot Rio de Janeiro, you’ve already moved on to scheming ways to get your butt to Bahia, Brazil’s fourth largest state and the newest playground for those in the know. Want proof? Photographer Terry Richardson enlisted Bahia’s gorgeous Uxua Casa Hotel as a backdrop for the 2010 Pirelli calendar, which just happens to be owned by Wilbert Das, the creative director of the Diesel label. That alone should guarantee a boutique hotel’s worth of long-legged goddesses flying in to see what the hub bub is all about.
Following supermodels, photographers and jetsetters isn’t always a bad thing, as long as it’s early in the game, and Bahia, despite its newly minted status, is still as raw and sultry as a night in Rio – without the madness.
Be sure to check out the historic Pelourinho district in Bahia’s capital city of Salvador (São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos), and act like you know by taking a date to “The Thinker”, Rodin’s most famous sculpture, now on loan at the Palacete das Artes.
